We hope you’ve found what you’re looking for on this website. However if you haven’t, maybe one of these questions will help you.
Amber Smith is our Choir Leader. Musicality is a community choir and a great team effort with members working together to do the small jobs that help to create a welcoming experience. This ranges from bringing cakes for break to creating and sharing a playlist of songs we're learning, to helping to organise a BBQ or quiz night. But if you want to just turn up and sing, that's ok too!
You don't need to read music to join Musicality. You don't even need to have sung in a choir before. You'll be given sheet music with the words on, just in case you can read music or it helps.
There are no auditions for Musicality. If you don't know if you're a tenor, bass, alto or soprano, Amber and Ollie our pianist can help you work it out when you first join.
The more often you come, the more you'll get out of the experience but we of course realise that life can be busy and that not everyone can make it every week!
When you sign up and pay your fees (subscription), these are done on a non-return basis so we won't unfortunately be able to refund sessions you're unable to attend.
Have a look at our Repertoire.
We start with a warm-up at 7.45pm then move into practising our current pieces. Amber breaks the pieces down into sections and parts so that whether you're a soprano, alto, tenor or bass, you get time to get to grips with your own section before singing together. Our piano player, Ollie ....
Choir is £25 a month paid by monthly direct debit. Membership is calculated at £100 per term divided by four = £25 a month. We spread the cost to make it more affordable and accessible for everyone and don’t want finances to be a barrier for anyone. Any worries or queries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Once you've collected your music for the pieces we're singing that term, you need to bring the sheets each week. It's also sensible to bring a bottle of water or a hot drink in a flask. You otherwise need to just bring yourself - and your voice (and maybe an extra jumper in the winter months).
You can sign up by either completing the short registration form, emailing Amber Smith on amber-smith1@outlook.com or call Amber on 07930 408636.
You then simply have to turn up to the next rehearsal!
Those who can and would like to, head to a nearby pub on the first Thursday of each month. We have a 15 minute break during rehearsals, which is a chance to have a bite of cake and a chat with fellow choir members. We also do local theatre trips, the odd quiz, BBQ and treasure hunt with plans for a choir tour in 2024 for those who're interested and able to join.
While we need a critical mass to stage performances and events, there's no need to take part if you'd prefer not to.
For performances we wear teal-coloured tops and black trousers or skirts. Teal jumpsuits, jackets or dresses have also made appearances. The gallery has plenty of photos and videos of us in our teal outfits.
For choir rehearsals on Thursday nights, wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. In the winter, it's sensible to come with layers to help keep you warm in our beautiful but sometimes slightly chilly church.
